Cervical mucus across the cycle
How discharge may change near ovulation and what infections, medications, and semen can make harder to interpret.

Estrogen changes cervical fluid
As ovulation approaches, cervical mucus often becomes wetter, clearer, and more slippery. This fluid can support sperm movement. After ovulation, progesterone commonly makes mucus thicker or less noticeable.
Observe, do not over-interpret
Record the sensation and appearance consistently rather than forcing every day into a perfect pattern. Arousal fluid, semen, lubricants, some medicines, and vaginal infections can make observations difficult to interpret.
Know when discharge is a symptom
Strong odor, itching, burning, pelvic pain, sores, or an unusual color can point to a health issue rather than a fertility sign. A clinician can evaluate new or concerning discharge.
